Allagash Tripel

Ok so here we go.

I have got one beer review for you all. The beer well actually it really is an ale a Belgium style ale in fact. First for anyone who does not know the difference between beer, ale, lager, and such I will explain. First you have the generic term beer, now this can be broken down into two main classes, ale and lager. What maker beer ale or a lager is the yeast used by the brewer. Examples of lager are Heineken, Spaten and Budweiser (can Budweiser really be called a beer, yuck) examples of ale are Sierra Nevada pale ale, Redhook ESB and Guinness. Now on with my review, the beer I will be reviewing is called Allagash Tripel I bought this beer at Bevmo in San Mateo I think I paid 7.99 or 8.99 for the 750ml bottle. I had the bottle in the fridge for about a week before I was ready to try it. It came in an attractive Champaign type bottle with a cork in the top. I popped the cork and poured the beer into my glass it had a nice cloudy apple cider appearance with an off white head. The aromas where of fruits, banana and apple with some honey, herbs and spices plus slight alcohol. First sip, flavors of banana bread with some honey also corriander very smooth and rich. Could barley taste the alcohol which is 9% according to the label. The finish was sweet and as the beer warmed it became sweeter. Overall very good Belgian style ale with great balance I would expect no less from the Allagash brewery which I believe is one of the better ones in the United States.
